Our Educational Philosophy

Learning here is engaging, meaningful — and often looks a lot like play.

Our curriculum objectives are achieved through purposeful play, a powerful vehicle for exploration, discovery, creativity, and problem-solving. Assessment is continuous and supportive, never exam-driven.

Five Principles

Our philosophy, in five commitments.

At Hope Haven Academy, our educational philosophy is founded on five principles that shape every lesson and every interaction.

01

Child-Centred Learning

Every child is unique. We value each child's individual interests, strengths, and learning styles, and provide personalized opportunities that nurture their growth and development.

02

Learning through Play

Our curriculum objectives are achieved through purposeful play — a powerful vehicle for exploration, discovery, creativity, and problem-solving.

03

Holistic Development

Our academic programme supports intellectual, emotional, social, physical, creative and moral growth.

04

Excellence through Relationships

The positive relationships between Lesson Buddies, learners, and families create the foundation for meaningful learning.

05

Lifelong Learning

We inspire curiosity, resilience and a growth mindset that prepares children for continued success throughout their lives.

Our Learning Philosophy

The best of two curricula, woven into one experience

We integrate the strengths of the GES and Cambridge curricula to create a balanced educational experience that develops academic knowledge alongside the capabilities children need for life.

Grounded

GES Curriculum

Ghana's own standards-based curriculum — language, community, service and identity — so children are rooted in who they are and where they come from.

Global

Cambridge Curriculum

Internationally recognized Cambridge practice and standards that open doors to global opportunities and prepare children to thrive anywhere.

Inside the Classroom
Who Teaches Here

We don't call them teachers. We call them Lesson Buddies.

We do not call our instructors teachers — we call them Lesson Buddies. The name is the job: a qualified adult who sits beside your child, learns alongside them, and knows them well enough to pitch every lesson to the child in front of them.

Qualified First

Every Lesson Buddy is a trained educator. The warmth of the name does not soften the standard behind it.

Beside, Not Above

They sit at the child's level, ask the questions back, and let learners arrive at the answer themselves.

They Know Your Child

Small groups mean your child's Lesson Buddy can name their strengths, their wobbles and what makes them light up.

In Touch With Home

Progress, observations and the small daily wins are shared with you regularly, not saved up for a report card.

In the Classroom

Children who ask questions, investigate ideas, and reflect on their learning.

Learning at Hope Haven Academy is engaging and meaningful. We integrate the strengths of the GES and Cambridge curricula to create a balanced educational experience that develops academic knowledge alongside creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and confidence.

Learners are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, solve problems, and reflect on their learning. Our classrooms provide opportunities for purposeful play, hands-on exploration, inquiry, and collaborative learning. Assessment is continuous and supportive — this helps Lesson Buddies tailor learning experiences to meet each child's needs while celebrating individual progress.

Purposeful Play

Play with intent behind it — every activity maps to a curriculum objective.

Hands-On Exploration

Children learn by doing, touching, building and testing what they think.

Inquiry-Based

Big questions drive the lesson, and children are trusted to investigate.

Collaborative

Working together builds communication, empathy and shared responsibility.

A Day at Hope Haven

A rhythm children can count on.

Predictable structure gives young children the security to take risks in their learning. Here is how a typical day unfolds.

  1. Morning

    Welcome & Circle Time

Children are greeted by name, share news, and settle into the day with songs, the creed, and the day's big question.

  2. Mid-Morning

    Focused Learning

Literacy and numeracy in small groups, drawing on both the GES and Cambridge curricula, pitched to each child's stage.

  3. Midday

    Purposeful Play & Outdoors

Exploration, building, movement and free play — where problem-solving, negotiation and confidence are actually learned.

  4. Afternoon

    Creative & Discovery

Art, music, storytelling and hands-on inquiry, so every child finds the subject that makes them light up.

  5. Late Afternoon

    Reflection & Handover

Children reflect on what they learned, tidy together, and Lesson Buddies share the day with parents or extended-care staff.

How We Assess

Continuous, supportive — and always celebrated.
